About Cannock Street Test Centre

The centre is on the Troon Industrial Estate, just off Barkbythorpe Road and close to the Troon Way roundabout. It has toilets and waiting area. Arrive only 7 minutes before the test. 

What to expect on test day

The test centre sits in a busy industrial area, so expect steady traffic around the start of your test. Nearby Thurmaston Lane can get especially busy at rush hour. Beyond the estate, you’ll typically find a mix of:

• Roundabouts, including large multi-lane ones around Troon Way, plus mini roundabouts
• Traffic-light junctions and crossroads
• Dual carriageways and higher-speed roads
• Quieter residential streets, often used for your manoeuvre

The DVSA no longer publishes official test routes, and examiners choose them at their discretion. That’s why we don’t teach you one route. We teach you to handle any route the area throws at you.

Tips from our instructors

1. Know the area. Have lessons around the Troon Way, Thurmaston Lane and Barkbythorpe Road areas before test day.
2. Master roundabouts. They’re the most common source of faults, so practise them in different traffic conditions.
3. Arrive early. You allowed to arrive 7-8 minutes before the test. However, avoid arriving too early, as you could be in the way of canididates who are returning from their tests. So give yourself enough time to park and settle your nerves.
4. Book a pre-test lesson. A short session beforehand keeps your skills sharp and your nerves in check.
5. Bring what you need. Your provisional licence and your theory test pass certificate (usually they don’t ask). Your reading glasses if you have one.
